25. Tampa Bay Hard Bottom Monitoring Survey

Now it’s Your Turn

In the comments, please ask questions or make suggestions that will help the cartographer improve the map. Key things to think about include:

  • Does the map orient the viewer?
  • Does the data tell a story?
  • Does the map support the story being told?
  • Does the map make assumptions?
  • How could the map be more readable?
  • Are there any errors or typos?
  • Eric Nost

Does the data tell a story?
-There’s a lot of data here but I’m not sure what the takeaway is.
    Does the map make assumptions?
-There’s a lot of terms here (even just “hard bottom”) that aren’t particularly well-described.
How could the map be more readable?
-Make the text bigger, drop the italicization, maybe drop some of the “hard bottom present?” squares to show more of the terrain.

I’m not sure this map will be readable. It appears to be too low resolution. Everything is blurry, even when I zoom in. Consider increasing the resolution, say 300 dpi minimum.

  • Jessica Norriss

I would agree with the previous comments – what is the purpose of having so many various aspects in the legend? From what I understood of the text you are looking to analyze the locations of hard bottom ecosystems, thus you have monitoring data of where they have been identified or not based on drop cameras (not 100% sure what these are)

don’t then know if the monitoring transects are necessary, and then just instead the delineations

Thus, I would take away that while hard bottom ecosystems are delineated in the following sections but they they are not identified by the drop camera monitoring, yes?

Does that make sense or did I totally miss the point? Happy to continue this conversation and walk through it as you edit!
