40. North American Water Tensions in the Year 2028

Now it’s Your Turn

In the comments, please ask questions or make suggestions that will help the cartographer improve the map. Key things to think about include:

  • Does the map orient the viewer?
  • Does the data tell a story?
  • Does the map support the story being told?
  • Does the map make assumptions?
  • How could the map be more readable?
  • Are there any errors or typos?

I like science fiction and love the idea of mapping your own book. Very cool. is it published?

I like the introduction at the top of the map, very sci-fi sounding.
The vagueness of the states outlined on the map are a nice touch.
The color legend does not look like the colors shown on the map, it’s a bit washed.
What is UAV? I think its gray dashes on the legend could be darker both on the legend and map.
Directional symbol could be smaller or removed or grayed.

I look forward to the books!

I like the way you integrated a militaristic style into your map through your font.
Could you add a bit more detail about the Las Vegas area? What are the blue squares?
The colors match the theme as well, but could the icon for the Union dept. of civil robotics be brightened in any way? If it’s a logo from the series, maybe make a white border around it to make it pop on the map.
I also really like the way the bodies of water look on this map. The rivers looks like its too bold to show detail in some places, so you could try changing the color to make it stand out more if that was the intent of the line weight.
    Super interesting map!

Well there’s 5 minutes squandered. I’ll now mount my trusty unicorn and be off to my lunch with Frodo..

  • dystopia! add conflict border zones (over water), but local scarcity/abundance points. use arrows to point which way exclusion is going… Did MX build that damned wall to keep out the gringos?
